SMEs not effectively managing own PR

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are lacking knowledge, strategy and tools to effectively manage their own PR and make the most of their investments.

A survey by Mynewsdesk found that while almost half of all SMEs expect to increase their PR expenditure in 2013 and are clear about the benefits, most do not issue news releases and around 70% don’t keep a media contact list.

For spas and salons, where business particularly depends on client rapport and communicating new treatments and products, valuable PR is vital.

Many businesses were found to use social media (65% of those questioned use Twitter, 63% Facebook and 60% LinkedIn) 87% of SMEs don’t have an overall PR strategy.

Mynewsdesk CEO Peter Ingham commented: “The survey clearly shows that while SMEs are keen to try and manage their own PR and engage with their audience online, the vast majority are failing to do so in an effective manner and are not getting the basics right.”
