Designed in accordance with principles and technologies thought to date as far back as to the construction of ancient temples and the pyramids, St Petersburg’s stunning Crystal Spa & Lounge is one of the most interesting spa opening of the past year.

In an increasingly competitive spa market where, the global recession not withstanding, a growing number of spas with increasingly impressive facilities are continuously opening up, it’s more important than ever for new ventures to have a unique selling point.

Crystal Spa & Lounge, which opened in St Petersburg in November 2012, certainly has that. Stretching across 450sq m and comprising 10 treatments rooms, the spa is centred on an unusual take on holistic wellness, one that has its roots in ancient principles and technologies.

Built in accordance with a mathematical principle known as the golden ratio (also referred to as the golden section or the golden mean and otherwise known as Phi), the spa uses an architectural approach believed to have been applied as far back as in the construction of the pyramids in Egypt.
