Swinton Estate in North Yorkshire has opened a spacious £8 million luxury spa which it claims embeds its area’s heritage.

The 21,500sq ft spa is situated at the privately-owned estate’s country club and features nine treatment rooms – including a couple’s room, consultation space for nutrition and wellbeing, steam room, Finnish sauna, hydrotherapy pool and 18m indoor swimming pool.

It also has a luxurious garden space with herbal sauna and shower, cedar hot tub and 10m natural water swimming pool.

One of the estate’s original buildings has been transformed into a “beauty cottage” which offers manicure, pedicure and hair styling services.

Co-owner of the estate, Felicity Cunliffe-Lister, has been the driving force behind the new spa on the 20,000-acre Swinton Estate and enlisted the help and consultancy of current vice chair of UK Spa Association Liz Holmes.

The health and fitness club on-site houses a gym, group exercise studio and functional fitness space, offering classes such as yoga, Pilates, spinning and circuit training.

The spa is using products from pro brands Elemis and Bamford as both reflect the spa’s holistic focus, and it will be open to hotel guests and those living in the area.

Richard Macklin, former senior director of Nirvana Spa Leisure, has been appointed spa manager.
