Illamasqua lipsticksThe Hut Group has acquired cult make-up brand Illamasqua in a deal understood to be worth £25m.

The acquisition comes just one month after The Hut Group (THG) purchased spa skincare brand Espa for an estimated £100m, solidifying THG's position as a major player in the professional beauty market. A few weeks prior, the online beauty retailer acquired beauty subscription box company Glossybox.

THG bought Illamasqua from owners Julian Kynaston and Joseph Corré. Illamasqua has long been sold on THG’s beauty retail website Lookfantastic.com. The brand is a favourite with professional make-up artists and also has standalone stores in Leeds, Liverpool and London.

THG founder Matthew Moulding has previously outlined plans to invest around £400 million this year on beauty brand acquisitions and technology projects.
