The tipping point
Professional Spa & Wellness tries the Shireen Poring Method, a needle-free and non-invasive anti-wrinkle treatment
With the ability to delay and reduce the visible signs of ageing being the dominant skincare concern across all markets, any product or treatment designed for this purpose is of industry-wide interest.
Offering a non-invasive and needle-free alternative to techniques such as Botox, the Shireen Poring Method, developed in Germany, provides an alternative for customers who are needle phobic, or simply prefer not to have injections. The method consists of pushing a fluid comprised of hyaluronic acid, water and mannitol into the skin, using the tip of a device known as the PoreJet.
The treatment is especially suitable for the early, relatively subtle, lines and wrinkles on the face, neck, décolletage and back of the hands. Replenishing the skin’s natural stores of hyaluronic acid, the production of which slows down with age, the fluid serves to simultaneously hydrate both the dermal and the epidermal layers of the skin, while the mannitol has a stabilising, antioxidant, effect.
Debbie Thomas, owner of the eponymous London skincare clinic where I have the treatment and one of the first in the UK to adopt the technique, explains that what is particular to the Shireen method is that is sends the fluid deep into the skin – separating cells that have become glued together as a result of depleted levels of water and hyaluronic acid – and thereby contributing to a smoother, plumped up, complexion.
