US sees 24% increase in SPF skincare and makeup sales
US department store sales of SPF skincare and makeup products have grown by 24% in the last three years, generating £1.1billion (US$1.7bn) worth of sales between June 2012 and May 2013 alone.
Figures from market information provider the NPD Group show that in the makeup category, SPF20 and SPF25 products saw the most marked increase, growing by 21% and 31% respectively.
Items with a higher level of sun protection also saw the most significant growth in the skincare segment, with SPF25 products increasing by 24%, SPF30 products by 54% and SPF50 products by 24% between June 2012 and May 2013.
