Travel review and booking site TripAdvisor said bookings for wellness experiences increased by 69% year on year in 2018.

Specifically, the most-booked wellness experience last year was a private entrance spa experience at Széchenyi Spa in Budapest. Admission to the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland in Rotorua, New Zealand came in second place, followed by an Arabian bath experience at Granada’s Hammam Al Ándalusin Spain.
Spa experiences in Phuket, Thailand; Melbourne, Australia; Tokyo, Japan; and Marrakech, Morocco also made the top 10.
“Travellers’ focus on immersive experiences show just how much the tourism landscape has changed,” said Hayley Coleman, a spokesperson for TripAdvisor.
“It’s no longer enough to visit iconic sites, but instead travellers are asking ‘What more can I get out of my trip?’, ‘How can I bring my travels home with me?’ Experiences like a trip to the Mineral Hot Springs in La Fortuna let travellers get deeper into a destination’s fabric and give them the opportunity to take what they’ve learned – or return rejuvenated – home.”
