2019 nail trends and how to wear them
Say goodbye to 2018’s animal print and cable-knit cool as this year’s nail looks see the rise of leather and colour chromes, as well as nudes – but with a twist.
Gemma Lambert-Lewis, owner of The Nail Team, talks us through how to find the trends and work the biggest nail looks for 2019 into your treatment menu.
Where can I find 2019’s hottest nail trends?
“Twice a year London Fashion Week (LFW) takes place – in February it covers autumn/winter fashion and in September spring/summer. As soon as these are finished, head to Pinterest to see what the fashion designers and industry experts are saying will be the key looks for the following year,” says Lambert-Lewis.
“You’ve then got to figure out what elements from that fashion look can work as a nail design. For example, if you look at Tom Ford’s last show, his outfits were quite plain and simple but the shoes were black with beautiful silver studs. So, black nails with silver studs would be your nail design.”
Trend one: nudes and blacks are in
“It’s looking like there’s still going to be a lot of nudes this year, and not a lot of colour, which I’m really disappointed about. There will also be a lot of black nails, especially with a leather texture finish for spring, but not for summer,” explains Lambert-Lewis.
“For nudes there will also be an array of textures, showing the difference between matte and shiny. There’s lots of ways to create different textures on the nail by using powders, pigments and different types of gels, and these can even be layered to get a different result.”
Trend two: colour chromes take centre stage
“Chrome is still big,” says Lambert-Lewis. “There’s a lot of metallics coming out this year, but it’s more about coloured chromes now, not just black, silver and gold.”
