While makeup trend predictions often centre on the upcoming season, celebrity makeup artist Isamaya Ffrench has taken things one step further, forecasting beauty trends for the year 2050
With a vast portfolio of work under her belt, having worked with stars from Rihanna to Björk, Ffrench is known for her adventurous approach to makeup.
Ffrench will be at Westfield Stratford City on October 17 to unveil the look as part of a live masterclass, followed by an intimate Q&A with visitors of The Future Studio.
Other highlights of the Future Studio include:
- The Beauty Forecast with Clinique – offering free skin analysis using its Clinical Reality technology
- The Futurebooth – with futuristic AR filters to let visitors try out the beauty trends of the future
- The Lab with Nourished – stations where visitors can create a bespoke ‘gummy stack’ of vitamins and nutrients tailored to their specific needs
Isamaya Ffrench’s makeup predictions for 2050
Iridescent mirror skin
Iridescent skin takes the glass skin trend even further.
“The complexion is hyper-reflective and luminous, echoing a world reshaped by rising temperatures and intensified sunlight,” says Ffrench.
“The iridescence shifts subtly under different lighting – a nod to bioluminescent life adapting to extreme environments, and to mood-responsive pigments that react to body temperature and emotion.”
Absence of eyebrows
“The removal of eyebrows speaks to the fluidity of identity in 2050,” explains Ffrench.
“It creates a neutral, almost alien blankness – a face that belongs everywhere and nowhere. It bridges the ancient and the futuristic, linking ritualistic transformation inspired by tribes who remove brows as rites of passage, mourning or purity, with post-digital self-expression.”
Metallic eyes
According to Ffrench’s prediction, “Molten tones reflect the metallic sheen of smart materials and tech-enhanced beauty, reminiscent of holographic interfaces and virtual avatars.
“Meanwhile, the interplay of warm metals such as gold and copper, and cooler tones such as silver and violet, mirrors the planet’s shifting climates and light conditions.”
Thick black lashes
Ffrench notes that the lashes are the anchor of the look. “They’re exaggerated, graphic, and the ultimate protection for the eyes,” she says.
“They evoke the 2050 reality of smart beauty prosthetics; perhaps lashes that extend and retract to filter pollution, adapt to air quality and protect the eyes from sunlight and extreme environmental conditions. Their boldness adds structure to an otherwise ethereal face, grounding the look.”
Live demonstration with Isamaya Ffrench
Katie Wyle, managing director of customer and retail operations, Northern Europe, at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said, “The Future Studio, part of Westfield Days, is the perfect place to see innovation in action.
“Collaborating with Isamaya Ffrench on The Face of 2050 has been incredible, and we can’t wait for visitors to watch her bring the look to life in the live tutorial – it’s a bold, inspiring glimpse of how beauty could evolve in the years ahead.”
