10,000 sq m Alpine Spa opens at Switzerland’s Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne

The 10,000 sq m Alpine Spa has opened its doors at Switzerland’s Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne this week.

The three-floor spa comprises a 7,00sq m indoor and 3,000sq m outdoor spa area. Indoor facilities include 13 treatment rooms, three private spa suites and a women’s only spa area.

The spa features floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the views from its location 500m above Lake Lucerne, with views of Mount Pilatus and Mount Rigi. Other indoor facilities include a Kneipp bath, rasul, Turkish steam bath, sauna with panoramic views, whirlpools and relaxation room with a log fireplace.

The outdoor spa area comprises a kidney shaped pool popular with the resort’s A-list guests in the 1950s, an infinity-edge pool and landscaped gardens. Spa director Irena Staudenmaier said of the spa concept: “The unique cliff-top location offers captivating views to soothe the soul.

“We believe wellbeing is as much about the mind as the body so have created a spiritual mountain-top haven.”

The Bürgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne draws on a history dating back 150 years. A large-scale development, it comprises four hotels, 67 private residences, 12 restaurants, bars and lounges and a nine-hole golf course.

Treatments offered at the Alpine Spa range from signature Bürgenstock hot stone massages, and body peels to Vichy shower treatments and a wide range of facials.

The spa is working with high-end Swiss brand La Prairie, with La Prairie options on the menu including the 45-minute Diamond Exfoliation for the Body. This body exfoliation is said to condition the skin and add glow through the use of diamonds and amethysts.

The spa is also partnering with natural German product house Susanne Kaufmann, which uses Alpine plane ingredients in its products.

Susanne Kaufmann treatments on the menu include the one-hour Bürgenstock Alpine Facial, developed to boost microcirculation and aid the skin in its ability to repair itself.

The spa also features indoor and outdoor fitness areas and offers a wide range of classes, including yoga and body pump.
