Over 88% of girls and 81% of boys’ aged 15 to 25 in the UK would change something about their body.
Only 7% of girls in the UK are proud of their entire body and the areas of their body that they are least happy with are their belly and thighs (37%), skin (20%) and breasts (18%). Meanwhile, 10% of boys are happy with their entire bodies, but would like to improve their muscles (25%), belly (20%) and hair (16%).
The findings also showed that one in five girls (22%) and 15% of boys in the UK would consider plastic surgery, according to global research conducted by InSites Consulting, which surveyed 4,065 respondents aged 15 to 25 (Generation Y) in 16 countries.
The UK scores slightly below the global average for youths that would consider having surgery, which stands at 23% for girls and 16% for boys. Brazil scored the highest as about half of the country's young women (47%) and 34% of young men would consider aesthetic enhancement.
“The current generation of youth is often referred to by scientists as the most narcissistic group ever, therefore it is not surprising that looking good is so important,” says Joeri Van den Bergh, Gen Y expert at InSites Consulting.
