Professional Spa & Wellness Convention speaker in the spotlight: Anna Thomas

Professional Spa & Wellness meets Anna Thomas, Spa Operations Manager at Stoke Park and one of the speakers at the PRofessional Spa & Wellness Convention - taking place 22-23 February at ExCeL London - to discuss 2015 trends

speaker

1 - What have been the most important spa industry developments in the past few years?

For me the development in social media and how we communicate with our customers now has been a big change within the last few years. It has certainly made me change the way in which I work and communicate with not only my customers but my team too!

2 - Which are the most pressing issues currently facing the spa & wellness industry?
More & more customers are coming for spa treatments that are either undergoing or have just finished treatment for Cancer. We know that Hospices and some spas are offering treatments to these guests but there are no set guidelines for us to all follow on this matter. It has been proven that treatments can be beneficial to guests such as this but as an industry we are trained to turn these customers away unless they have a letter from their consultant, which in this day I don’t feel we should be doing.

3 - What industry changes would you like to see in 2015?
I feel that the industry needs to move forward on the matter of treating clients with cancer. We are a therapeutic industry and as more awareness on the benefits of therapeutic treatments develops we need to keep up with the demands on us. I would like to see an industry body set standards for us to be able to follow. Therapists with the relevant experience should be able to attend recognised industry courses for them to gain the correct knowledge to be able to carry these treatments out so that we no longer have to turn clients away or make it a difficult matter for them to get a treatment with us.

4 - Why industry event such as PSW Convention are so important?
For me it as exciting chance to get so many different people form the industry together to share our knowledge and experience to help move the industry forward. I personally enjoy attending the panel discussions and presentations as I always walk away with some inspiration that I take back to my work place.

5 - What would you like the audience to take away from your session?
I would like the audience to take away some inspiration on how they may be able to develop their teams and grow their business and for them to understand how important our teams around us are.

Anna Thomas will be speaking on Monday 23 February 2015 at 11:00.
