The Trump Hotel Collection has announced the addition of a 270-room and suite property in Washington, the Trump International Hotel, Washington D.C., to its property portfolio.

Work on the redevelopment of the historic Old Post Office building began last week, with the hotel scheduled to open in 2016.

Following the completion of the US$200million (£118m) redevelopment project, the hotel will feature 1,0973sq m of meeting and events space, including a 3,962sq m ballroom.

The property will also comprise wellness facilities, including a 1,524sq m spa and a fitness centre.

Ivanka Trump, executive vice president of development and acquisitions for The Trump Organization, said: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to redevelop one of this country's most historic buildings and we will spare no effort to ensure that the hotel, once completed, lives up to the legacy and integrity of this iconic landmark.”
