National Spa Awareness Week, to be held November 4-8, is set to emphasise the role spas can play in helping people manage stress in their daily lives. Organised by the newly formed UK Spa Association – created following the merger of the Spa Business Association and the British International Spa Association in May – the week aims to make people more aware of the importance of controlling stress levels on a daily basis.
The UK Spa Association has teamed up with the International Stress Management Association (ISMA) to promote the week, which coincides with National Stress Awareness Day on November 6. Work is one of the key cause of stress – with research showing that stress related illness costs UK businesses £13billion a year – and combatting work associated stress is one of the week’s core focus areas.
Charlie Thompson, head of the UK Spa Association, said: “We know that stress is responsible for over 50% of all work related illnesses. By raising awareness and educating consumers, in particular the business community, of the health benefits of regular massage and spa treatments, we are ideally placed to provide a proactive and preventative solution to help control this problem."
All interested UK spas and salons can participate in National Spa Awareness Week, with the only requirement being to organise an event that includes sample stress fighting treatments, and stress management advice. Participation is free for UK Spa Association members, while a £250 charge applies for non-members.
