Beauty salon Satori opening first training academy in Plymouth
Plymouth-based beauty salon Satori is launching Satori Academy in January 2017, a training academy offering therapists new to the industry business courses on customer service skills and how to successfully run a salon.
“What I’ve found is that if you’re taking on staff who have come from college, having taken a Level 3 City & Guilds Beauty Therapy course, they’ve got the trade skills but have no idea of customer service or about working in the salon day to day,” said co-owner Natasha Griffin.
“I want to teach these therapists the importance of customer service, from engaging with the client and understanding their needs to the right body language to use. It’s about building up their confidence.”
The courses will take place in Satori’s training facility, a separate room not too far from where the salon is based in Plymouth’s Drake Circus Shopping Centre. However, part of the learning will also take place in salon as “therapists need to learn in the environment they will be working in. We’re trying to improve the service you get within the industry,” added Griffin.
The courses will be taught by Griffin and other members of the Satori team trained to teach at the academy, and can be held after hours (6pm–10pm) to benefit those who work all day.
The academy will also offer practical courses on pregnancy massage, individual lashes and creating the perfect gel nail.
