Editor's choice: A/W catwalk beauty

With London Fashion Week drawing to a close all eyes have been on Somerset House for a first glimpse of the trends for the spring/summer ‘15 season. The creative directors and MUAs in charge of putting the catwalk beauty look together did not disappoint (don’t miss Professional Beauty’s October issue for a look at the beauty and nail S/S15 beauty trends) and next spring looks set to bring some great launches.
However, back to the here and now, September is upon us and the autumn/winter make-up launches have hit the market, so I think it’s time to revisit some of the trends unveiled on February’s catwalks for the cooler months, and the pro make-up products available to recreate the look.
Feline flicks
The Alexa Chung eye was a common feature of the February catwalks, spied at the likes of Lanvin, Roberto Cavalli, Rag & Bone, and Felder Felder (pictured). I love this look because it’s so adaptable – a simple liquid liner flick works for daytime wear, and go all out with block colour for an evening look.
Create the look: The angled brushes in the Make-Up by HD Brows eye shadow palettes is great for creating that all important flick. I love the Vamp palette, with seasonal burgundies and plum shades.
Gilded lids
Eyes washed in a metallic gold shimmer were a stand out look in the spring, appearing at the catwalks of Antipodium and Alexander McQueen. It’s a great party look for the festive, and is great against blue eyes to make them really stand out.
Create the look: Gold is a staple shade in brow palettes from the likes of HD Brows and Jane Iredale this season. I love these Forever Eye Colour Crayons from Mii (try Rose Gold and Antique shades), which make for an effortless application and easy top up.
Red wine lips
I love a statement lipstick – for me, a bright, standout lip colour the simplest way to feel glamorous. The berry stained, vampy lip was my favourite look of the autumn/winter trends. The girls at Busardi wore a high gloss, almost purple lip stain, while at Prada the models alternated between solid crimson, and a matte berry tint fading to a pale edge.
Create the look: In my experience, Aveda’s lipsticks have great staying power, and this season’s Romantic Grandeur collection has two hot berry shades for autumn. I love the Sheer Mineral Lip Colour in Sheer Fig shade. For a softer take on the look, try Jane Iredale’s Katerine Puremoist Lipstick from the City Nights collection.
