Government approves employer-led apprenticeship standards
The Government has today approved the new employer-led standards for hair and beauty apprenticeships, developed by the Trailblazer Group of industry employers.
The new standards have three training pathways for beauty apprentices: beauty and make-up consultancy, beauty and spa therapy, and nail services.
They were developed with the aim of making apprenticeships easier for employers to run and making sure that trainees are ready for to work in a salon when they qualify.
George Hammer, chair of the Trailblazer Group for beauty therapy standards, said, “We’re delighted with the government approval of the standards, which have been thoroughly considered and discussed by employers and industry stakeholders alike.”
The next stage is to work with awarding organisations to develop assessment frameworks, which will carried out by independent examiners, and developers warn there is still much to be done in order to put the standards into practice. The new apprenticeships will be live from September 2016, although there is hope to have them implemented in time for the new academic year in September 2015.
