Marsden salon offering free make-up courses to keep teens out of trouble

Hidden Beauty Rooms in Marsden has launched a series of free make-up courses for teenagers after seeing posts on social media about antisocial behaviour in the area.

The Face Forward Make-up Camp teaches teenagers between the ages of 10 to 16 how to apply make-up, including evening, festival and glam looks, as well as special effects such as wounds and other fake injuries.

“The idea was to open up the salon to teens and allow them to learn make-up in the hope it would give them somewhere to go rather than roaming the streets,” Sadie Cooper, who runs the salon, told The Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

“A demo is given on a look before attendees are given the chance to recreate their own version.”

The courses have been so popular that the salon is also offering the course for mothers and daughters. The adult courses are designed to “boost confidence and encourage people to get into adult learning”.

Cooper has received backing by Kirklees Council and is thinking about expanding the courses to other parts of Kirklees.
