Holidays key to health and happiness

The vast majority of Americans believe holidays can improve health and happiness, according to a new study by travel research body Wellness Tourism Worldwide.

Nearly 90% of participants stated that they felt holidays contribute to good health, while more than 90% said it was conducive to happiness. A significant proportion, 40%, said they had begun a new health regime while on holiday.

The study, US Vacationers: Health, Happiness & Productivity – The Essential Report for Travel, Hospitality & Wellness Industries – examines the role of holidays and time off when it comes to happiness, productivity and work/life balance. The report found that the overwhelming majority of respondents, 84%, believe holidays can improve productivity, while 80% feel they can have a transformative effect on our lives.

Camille Hoheb, founder and chief executive of Wellness Tourism Worldwide, said: “Respondents believe vacations are an important aspect of work/life balance, providing time to decompress, connect, explore, learn and transform."
