At Professional Beauty we’re constantly trying to bring you advice to help grow your business and ultimately to make more money. However, while sales are important, we know the reason many of you got into the beauty and spa industry in the first place was to make people feel better.
Be that through wellness treatments that have a significant impact on clients’ health, solving a skin condition to boost their confidence, or simply helping them take an hour out of their hectic schedule to treat themselves to a manicure, you make a difference to people’s lives every day. So when I heard about a group that’s trying to extend those services to some of the people who need them most I was happy to get involved.
There’s been a lot of talk in the industry lately about obstacles getting in the way of spas and salons offering treatments to people being treated for or recovering from cancer. Getting the right insurance can sometimes be tricky, and helping therapists to fully understand which treatments can and can’t be given, and how to speak sensitively to cancer sufferers is also high on the agenda of many spa and salon owners. Find out more about how new organisation TPOT aims to tackle those issues in the July issue, then do sign up to get involved if you can.
We’re also going back to basics this issue with a closer look at two of the categories that dominate in salons – waxing and cleansing. Both have seen innovation of late. Waxing is receiving significant investment from manufacturers – and from spas and salons looking to capitalise on the treatment as a driver of repeat business. Find out more on in the current issue. Meanwhile, cleansers were named one of the fastest growing skincare categories of last year by analysts, which has led to the development of more advanced “treatment cleansers”. You can read more about the trend and how the big brands are interpreting it in PB July.
As summer hots up, these salon staples look set to keep business growing, and help you give clients a more personalised service.
The July issue is out now. A digital version can be bought online for £1.49 – or just £5 for 12 issues. The print edition is just £37 for an annual 12-issue subscription. Make sure you’re always the first to read the news and trends by subscribing online.
