US-themed kids-only salon Kandy Girl opens in Birmingham
Kids-only beauty salon Kandy Girl has opened in Kingstanding in Birmingham, offering a wide range of treatments for children aged three to 16 years old.
The salon is packed with bubble gum pink massage chairs, pink and gold leather thrones, a dance room and hot tub for children aged 10 years and over, plus there’s cookies, milkshakes and magazines for the kids to enjoy.
Treatments range from manicure and pedicures to chocolate and strawberry facial scrubs.
Owner Rachel Powell says she got the idea for her salon after seeing the popularity of such businesses in the USA and Dubai.
“The whole idea came from my daughter, Kimora, who is eight now. I’m a qualified beautician and she likes to see me doing it all. She came to me about the idea and asked if she could have her party at one these salons,” Powell told the Birmingham Mail.
“Then she said: ‘Mum, why don’t you just do your own? That way my friends can come’. [These kinds of salons have] been in the United States for about two years now. It’s big in Dubai as well but there’s nothing like it over here.
“I didn’t want it to be a nail bar or anything like that. I want it to be an experience for young girls,” she added.
