Behind the scenes at PB’s Make-up Specialist 2019 judging day

Four make-up artists went head-to-head today to prove that they are a leading talent in the industry at the Professional Beauty Make-up Specialist of the Year 2019 judging day.

Held at the London College of Beauty Therapy (LBCT) campus in central London, Sita Gill, Clare Pearson, Shannon Shea and Betsy-Dora Turner had one hour to create a beauty look based on an iconic singer.

The singer could be from any era as long as the look was unique and identifiable to them and it had to be accompanied by a comprehensive moodboard which explained the MUA’s choice.

Gill recreated Rihanna’s look from the Wild Thoughts video, Pearson did her version of Madonna’s Material Girl, Shea took inspiration from Bowie and his iconic lightning bolt, and Turner recreated Christina Aguilera’s image from the Moulin Rouge video.

When the hour was up, the models were inspected and judged by make-up artist Armand Beasley and freelance MUA Carolyn Deacock, before the finalists were interviewed.

In the 10-minute interview, the MUAs were asked to talk through their moodboard, the inspiration behind the look, application techniques and why they should be crowned PB’s Make-up Specialist of the Year 2019.

The winner will be announced at the national Professional Beauty Awards 2019 on Sunday, February 24, in London.
