MENA spa market worth £2 billion, research reveals
The spa market in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is valued at £2 billion, according to new data from Euromonitor.
The figures were revealed in a preview to a report that will be released at The Leisure Show 2016 and Piscine Middle East, both taking place in Dubai September 17-19.
Euromonitor forecasts that the spa market in the MENA region will grow 21.6% between 2015 and 2019.
This is in line with previous research from the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), showing that the Middle East and North Africa is the second fastest growing spa market in the world. The GWI research also showed strong growth in the MENA wellness tourism market.
Euromonitor explained that the health and wellness aspect of spa is on the rise in the MENA region. Rabia Yasmeen, research analyst at Euromonitor, said: “The trend towards health and wellness and medical tourism in this region is expanding.
“Health focused tourists usually spend more than 130% [more than] regular travellers as they seek such experiences as part of leisure activities.”
