Online retailers could hit the high street in 2014

Online beauty retailers could set up shop on the high street, according to analyst Imogen Matthews Associates’ predictions for the premium beauty market in 2014.

The report said that thanks to the large amount of vacant high street property left by retail failures in recent years, digital retailers will be attracted to bricks-and-mortar stores, and the British high street will see a revival in 2014.

The report also says that the next generations of BB creams – the CC and DD creams – will never be as successful as their predecessor, as “the novelty has worn off”. However, it tipped tinted serums to be the next hero product among consumers.

Retailers will also be looking at the economics of the stock they carry, and are likely to reduce their portfolios, the analyst said, which could mean good news for the professional market retailing exclusive brands.

The analyst also expects to see more acquisitions of niche brands by the large beauty corporations such as Coty, Estee Lauder and L'Oreal.
