Team UK’s Rebecca West wins gold for Beauty Therapy at WorldSkills 2019

Team UK won gold for Beauty Therapy at WorldSkills 2019 – a competition which measures the skills and excellence of therapists across the globe.

Competitor Rebecca West, 22, a student from East Sussex College, was crowned the best in the world for beauty therapy, taking home the gold medal for the UK.

“It’s just amazing. I’m in shock. I’m so proud to say that I’m now the best in the world,” West told WorldSkills.

“It means everything. I’ve put in so much hard work. During the past 20 weeks I’ve done nothing but train. It’s been crazy but all the hard work has paid off. Thank you to everyone who supported me.”

The win means Britain retains its place as the best in this category from EuroSkills in 2018, when 20-year-old Holly-Mae Cotterell from Herefordshire was voted Europe’s best beauty therapist.

The 45th WorldSkills Competition was held in Kazan and aims to raise the profile and recognition of skilled people in all industries, showing how important skills are in achieving economic growth.

There's still time to enter the lash, make-up and nail championships taking place at Professional Beauty North on October 13–14. Submit your application now and there's a chance you could be crowned the best in your sector.
