What are the differences between lash extension styles and types?

The main types of lashes used for professional extensions are mink, synthetic mink, silk, 3D, 2D, Russian layering and Tahitian feathering. They are semi-permanent and adhered on top of the natural lash, usually with a medicalgrade adhesive, and when applied correctly should not touch the skin at all, making them very comfortable to wear.

Mink lashes are made from real mink and are much more expensive than other types of lashes, while silk lashes can actually feel quite hard and plastic to the touch – very different from what the name suggests and not as popular as the other types of lashes.

Russian layering or Russian volume is the most advanced technique in the lash industry. This is usually more expensive than all other extension treatments and can cost between £200-300 in parts of London. It involves picking up three to four ultra-fine lashes, fanning them out and applying them to every single lash, so there will be around 400-500 lashes per eye.

2D and 3D lashes are another way of achieving voluminous lashes. This involves picking up two lashes (three in the 3D technique) and applying them. Finally, Tahitian feathering is a technique created by Lash Perfect and uses fine lashes to give a light, fluffy and soft look. It tends to cost a higher price, as with Russian layering.
