These are the best beauty moments from the British Fashion Awards

The Fashion Awards returned to the Royal Albert Hall last night (December 5) as guests celebrated  “self-expression, escapism and optimism and [the industry’s] positioning at the intersection of culture”.

Despite it being a night focused on fashion, the guests did not disappoint when it came to glam, with major looks served on the carpet. Check out some of our favourite make-up moments from the night, and discover how they were created from the make-up artists behind them.

Lash attack

Raye

‘Escapism’ singer Raye stunned on the red carpet with a bold feather lash look, designed by leading session MUA and co-organiser of PB London’s make-up competition, Lan Nguyen-Grealis.

Nguyen-Grealis shared the inspiration behind the look with us, as she explained the aim of the look was “all about lifting and giving a modern graphic shape with a feline and feminine touch”.

When it came to creating the exaggerated lash look, Nguyen-Grealis turned to feathers in deep purple, black brown and navy, stacked on top of layered false lashes.

“Lashes were layered to give depth on top and bottom, and to provide a base for the special bespoke feathers that were strategically placed to give her a winged shape,” explains Nguyen-Grealis.

To pull the look together, skin was kept soft and illuminated, with a minimal flush of color across the cheeks and a natural lip to ensure all attention was on the eyes.

Kristen McMenamy

Dressed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, Valentino’s creative director and winner of Designer of the Year at this year’s BFAs, the supermodel wore a stunning feathered cape in the brand’s now signature PinkPP, highlighting the feather details with a feathered extreme lash look in the same shade, created by MUA Lauren Brown.

Vampire’s kiss

Yasmin Finney

Heartstopper’s Yasmin Finney, styled by Harris Reid for the evening, worked with Glow Up alumnus James Mac to create her look for the BFAs.

When it came to the stunning bold lip she sported on the carpet, Mac shared that he “used NYX products and I also used MAC Cosmetics, starting with Ruby Woo which I blended out into an ombre lip with MAC’s Coffee pencil liner”.

“I also did a lighter centre of the lip with MAC’s Viva Glam 2 and used the NYX ‘Snatch’ eyebrow pen to really thinly sharpen the edges, which I buffed out with an eyeshadow brush to blend together for a vamp ombre lip,” adds Mac.

“Our main concept was adding a modern twist on an all-time classic beauty,” he shares, with the rest of the look channeling a “minimal, femme fatale” look as Mac set out to combine “Hollywood glamour with the new Gen-Z era” to reflect Finney’s role representing the forthcoming generation.

Actress Pugh, who also wore Valentino, brought all attention to her lips with this deep red vampy look. The lip was a slightly darker shade than her dress, but in the same undertone for a cohesive look, paired with a neutral eye, natural brows and slicked-back hair for an effortless effect.

Metallic mood

Adut Akech

Make-up artist Esther Edeme created a bold and beautiful metallic-effect white/silver eyeliner for the 22-year-old supermodel, who was nominated for Model of the Year at the event.

The choice of colour for the bold eye look matched her gown from Nensi Dojaka, and popped against her skin tone. Edeme tied the look together with two tiny diamantes under her eyes, proving that, whilst evolving, the Euphoria trend is here to stay for a little while longer.

Elsa Hosk

Party season is here and so are metallics, as supermodel Hosk chose to shine with silver hues, both in her MiuMiu co-ord and her silver smokey eye by MUA Kelly McClain.

The model brought a classic smokey eye and winged liner combo into 2023 with the use of silver shimmer shades and a contrasting black liner - a look we’ll definitely be recreating for NYE!

Alien invasion

Rita Ora

A look that deserves a category of its own, Rita Ora’s alien-mermaid-esque prosthetic masterpiece was created in collaboration by Esme Horn and Isamaya Ffrench.

The ‘siren brows’ look used prosthetics to create a gill-like eyebrow, extending down to the cheekbones for an exaggerated, chiselled look. This was finished with flushed pink lips and a hint of pink on the eyes to tie in with the pink and red shades of her barely-there sheer dress.
