Boutique spa opening at Newcastle hotel as part of £1.2m development

Grade-II listed Grey Street Hotel in Newcastle upon Tyne is undergoing a £1.2m refurbishment, which will include a boutique spa.

The luxury spa, which the business hopes will put it at the forefront of the city’s hospitality sector, will comprise of three treatment rooms, a manicure and pedicure suite, and hair and beauty salon – all of which can be used by non-residents as well as those staying in the hotel.

The hotel’s 49 rooms will also be updated and there will be a new conference and event space which can hold up to 100 people.

“Our challenge has been in providing the standard of luxury and comfort today’s hotel visitors expect, while respecting the building’s historical and architectural significance. We very much want the hotel to be as appealing to passing custom as it is to residential visitors,” said Atul Malhotra, operations director of The Malhotra Group plc, the company that owns the hotel.

“Our spa will be the perfect place in which to prepare for a night on the town, unwind after a long week at work or enjoy a midweek lunchtime manicure.”

The development is expected to take 32-weeks and will create 12 full-time and part-time jobs in the area. Work is expected to be completed by May 2017.
