National Fitness Week

UK spas and salons are set to take part in National Fitness Day tomorrow (September 27) – a nationwide celebration of physical activity and fitness.

The event, sponsored by Argos and AXA PPP Healthcare, is encouraging people to celebrate the fun of fitness and physical activity, helping to raise awareness of its importance in helping clients lead healthier and active lifestyles.

Spas, gym operators, equipment suppliers, personal trainers, schools, colleges and more are all getting involved, offering a range of free taster sessions and gym passes.

Macdonald Hotels Leisure Clubs is taking part, offering the public a chance to experience its leisure facilities and get involved in games, gym challenges and taster classes for free.

Keith Pickard, group director of golf, leisure and spa at the MacDonald Hotels & Resorts, said: “Our hotels offer state of the art facilities and we are delighted to raise awareness about health and the benefits of keeping fit in a fun environment.

“We would like people who are not normally active to grab their trainers along with their friends, colleagues and family for a fun day out which could change their lives.”

Meanwhile, Senses Wellness Centre and Spa at Hampshire Lakes will also be celebrating with a special Active Ageing event, packed full of fun exercises including aerobics, Pilates and more from 9am–3pm; and Sen Spa will be attempting to cycle 1,024 miles – the equivalent of North to South of Thailand in just 14 hours.

The challenge will take place in the spa’s studio and it is looking for at least five volunteers to take part between 7am–9pm.

Plus, Strictly Come Dancing star Darcey Bussell will lead a workout at Paddington Recreation Ground at 7:30am to kick-start the day’s events.
