Top minimalist beauty trends of 2023
This year will see the popularity of minimalist beauty continue, as people opt for simpler and more natural looks.
The “clean girl aesthetic” quickly became one of the most popular trends last year and its showing no signs of disappearing, with the “clean girl aesthetic” hashtag receiving 22.5 million views on TikTok.
“Micro makeovers” are also set to trend as millennials and Gen Z favour mini-French manicures and natural-looking nails.
Lash brand Nouveau Lashes has used Google search and social media data to look into which other minimalist beauty looks and treatments are set to trend in 2023.

When it came to beauty trends taking the internet by storm, lash serum took first place with an impressive score of 25.5/30 overall.
This ranking was thanks to 203k hashtags on Instagram, as well as 743 million TikTok views. This led to lash serum receiving 8.5 when it came to its impact on Instagram, and 7/10 when it came to TikTok.
Second on the list was slugging, which received a score of 24/30. Slugging refers to slathering your skin with an occlusive product at the end of your night-time skincare routine.
Rumoured to encourage a glossy, lit-from-within glow, it is no surprise that this trend had 10k Instagram hashtags and 1 billion TikTok views – find out what the skin experts think about slugging here.
In joint-second place was ‘lip stain’, also scoring 24/30. Despite being around for decades, this versatile product is, once again, doing the rounds – receiving 434 million views on TikTok overall.
With make-up trends slowly moving away from full-coverage products in favour of a more understated look, it makes sense that multi-purpose formulas are making their way back into the limelight.
The queen of natural-looking glam, Hailey Bieber, is regularly seen sporting a low-key yet glossy lip with just a hint of colour – and even make-up mogul Kylie Jenner has added a (green) lip tint to her vast collection.
