10 beauty trends set to take over in 2023

2023 is nearing, and with it will come a number of new beauty trends we'll be desperate to take on and recreate.

Look Fantastic has revealed the biggest trends to watch for in 2023, so you can get ahead of the game.

10 beauty trends for 2023

1. Sustainability is here to stay

Sustainable beauty is going nowhere, as consumers become more aware of their personal effect on the environment. From perfumes to fake tan, the beauty industry is slowly introducing refillable packaging and taking responsibility for its carbon footprint when producing products.

Consumers are wanting guilt-free use of their pleasures in life so, when making purchasing decisions they are predicted to go for the more eco-conscious refillable product over one that doesn’t offer this option.

2. Self-care

Another trend to watch out for in 2023 is the increase in demand for self-care. Beauty isn’t just designed to make us look good, but also feel great, and in 2023, we expect to see an increase in the “treat yourself” attitude, with consumers investing on what makes them feel good on the inside and out.

Now more than ever are people investing in self-care, including sexual wellness and are turning to beauty products and brands to provide that uplift we all deserve.

3. Skinification of hair

Make room on your shelves, as haircare routines are set to get a major upgrade as consumers invest as much time, money and effort into healthy hair as they do for their skin. Look Fantastic reports a surge in products including ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, squalane, niacinamide and glycerin and expect to see more skincare favourites trickling into the haircare market in the new year.

4. Celebrity brands

Love them or hate them, celebrity owned and endorsed brands are here to stay. This year we have seen more and more celebrities wanting to take part in the beauty industry and Look Fantastic predicts this trend won't be slowing down in 2023.

5. Make-up experimentation

Beauty and make-up is a way for people to express themselves, and in 2023, there will be even more experimentation in the beauty world. Alongside this, we expect to see brands encouraging people to be creative when creating their beauty looks.

In 2022, we saw just the beginning of this with bold Euphoria styled make-up making its statement - expect to see some pretty unique trends in 2023.

6. Two-tone hair

Why have on hair colour when you can have two? Perfect for those of us who are a little bit indesisive, the two-tone look has become popular thanks to Miley Cyrus and Love Island's India Polak. Following on from make-up experimentation, two-tone hair gives consumers another opportunity to express themselves, with online searches for “blue and black braids” up 215% and “lavender and blonde hair” up 150%.

7. Cutting ties with length

Short is the new long when it comes to both nails and hair, so prepare for a big chop in 2023. Expect consumers to trade almond and coffin shaped extensions for shorter, easier to maintain styles, with the same going for hair as long layered looks are traded in for sleek bobs.

8. Ceramides

Ingredients have been key in 2022, with consumers becoming more savvy about justwhat they're putting on their skin. Expect ceramide serums to rise in popularity as consumers look to strengthen their skin's moisture barrier and improve hydration, joining the likes of hyaluronic acid and vitamin C as a key skincare ingredient.

9. Proof behind claims

As we have all become more aware of different skincare ingredients and how they impact our regimes, the demand for proof behind the claims is expected to increase, ensuring we are investing in the correct products for our skin types. Brands are predicted to begin offering more readily available information to allow customers to make more informed purchasing decisions.

10. Lip stains

Following on from the Clean Girl trend on 2022, consumers will be reaching for products that enhance their natural beauty. Enter: lip stains. This lip product has longer staying power than your ordinary lipstick and gives a natural hue to the lips.
