These are the make-up looks set to trend this Halloween

With Halloween fast approaching, we’re sure your clients are filling your booking sheets with appointments for spooky make-up looks.

Whether your clients need a little extra inspo or you want to be prepared for what’s going to be popular this year, we’ve rounded up the Halloween looks that are sure to take off this spooky season.

Priscilla Presley

Given the popularity of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic released earlier this year, it comes as no surprise that Priscilla Presley’s 60s and 70s make-up looks are set to be heavily recreated this Halloween.

Think bold graphic liner, a trend that’s already been popular this year, with baby blue accents à la Hailey Bieber at Coachella for an authentic look.

This look is a great suggestion for your clients who want to dress up without leaning into the scary side.

Stranger Things

Now in its fourth season, Stranger Things is still as popular as ever.

The hit Netflix series lends itself to multiple Halloween looks for both your male and female clients.

“I think Stranger Things looks will be popular again this year. After watching the show, I think it’s definitely a great series and the make-up possibilities are endless,” shares TV and film make-up artist Liv McMullen.

For your male clients, why not go for an Eddie Munson recreation. As for the girls, nothing beats an Eleven-inspired look with blood dripping from the nose. For those looking for something on the scarier side, the show has a number of monsters to choose from.

Hocus Pocus

The Hocus Pocus revival can lead to only one thing – the Sanderson Sisters are back and better than ever.

The beauty of a Hocus Pocus inspired look is that there’s a sister for all of your clients – whether they’re a redheaded Winifred, brunette Mary or blonde Sarah. The sisters also make a great costume idea for groups of three.

‘Pretty’ Halloween make-up

Fairy make-up look created by Courtney Burr

For Surrey-based MUA Courtney Burr, Halloween isn’t all about scary because she believes ‘pretty’ Halloween make-up will be everywhere this year.

“We have seen the more natural and softer glams take over this past year, and I feel like clients want to carry this on through Halloween with the glam and go all out with costumes.”

Explaining exactly what a “pretty” Halloween look is, Burr shares, “Think diamantes for a Euphoria-inspired look or cute clowns and skulls with lots of glitter – I’ve even been seeing a lot of neon paints.”

Play with prosthetics

For clients who want to go all out this Halloween, it could be the perfect time to brush up on your prosthetics skills to take a classic look to the next level.

Whether it’s fairy ears and antlers or devil horns and witches’ noses, prosthetics can help to elevate a look to make sure passers-by glance back in disbelief.

Optical illusions

What better way to show off your make-up skills than creating an optical illusion look for your clients?

“Halloween is the perfect time to get creative with your make-up looks,” shares Brooke Evans Ironbridge's resident make-up artist Kerry Ellis, adding, “Illusion make-up has boomed on social media platforms and is set to be big this Halloween.”

The great thing about illusion make-up is that the possibilities are endless – whether you’re adding extra eyes or creating creepy crawlies escaping from places you really don’t want them to be – which means you can go as big or as minimal as you want!

“This make-up can be taken so far, creating mind-altering looks that can trick anybody,” adds Ellis.
