5 make-up trends set to dominate 2020

We spoke to MUA Mimi Lomax about the make-up trends that will sweep the coming year, touching on lips, brows and lashes.

“You’ve seen [these trends] on the runway, but we’re trying to bring it down to reality and make them more wearable,” says Lomax.

1. Red lips

A basic but heavily pigmented red lipstick is set to make big waves in 2020, especially paired with sleek hair and fresh skin, which will place focus on the standout colour.

This is unsurprising, as red lips were the most hashtagged make-up look on Instagram in 2019.

2. Statement eyebrows

Whether they’re bushy or bleached, statement eyebrows will be a great way to draw attention to the structure of cheekbones and clear skin this year.

According to Fragrance Direct, brow treatments were the most searched beauty terms in the UK for 2019

3. Exaggerated lashes

Taking influence from the 60s and 70s, exaggerated lashes are set to make a big return next year, with particular focus on mascara and curls.

4. Smoky eyes with a grungy edge

Moving away from more complex textures, simple smoky eyes with darker colours, such as black and browns, are set to come back into style.

As well as this, space-inspired make-up has been tipped by Pinterest to be big

5. Skincare as a base

Maintaining the perfect after-facial glow has become crucial, with this natural look being used as a base predicted to be huge in 2020.

Despite this, we recently debated whether clients should ditch moisturiser entirely. Read what two leading facialists had to say about the issue
